The Difference Between Glycolic and Salicylic Acid [DermTV.com Epi #69]
Via www.dermtv.com – When it comes to facial exfoliation, there are two acids which do a majority of the work glycolic and salicylic. Dr. Schultz will explain the difference between the two and what they’re both used for.
Other Acne Information
I thought benzoyl peroxide worked better than salicylic acid at cleaning the skin. O___o
@donutmaster: Benzoyl peroxide is actually an antibiotic as well as a keratolytic used to treat acne and acne prone skin. It works differently than salicylic and glycolic acids that work by cleaning off dead skin cells. While benzoyl peroxide is sometimes put into cleansers for it’s anti acne effect, it is not a cleanser or cleansing ingredient.
Ahhhhhh, thanks for… CLEARING THAT UP FOR ME.
*ahem* Seriously though, that makes a lot more sense. Thanks for the info.
Where can glycolic acid be purchased? What brand(s) would you recommend?
Thank you in advance for a prompt response!!
@1969LAGIRL: Products with glycolic acid are available at your local drugstore and over the Internet. Check out episodes on exfoliation on the DermTV website which contain specific recommended products (I’d paste the link here but YouTube doesn’t allow it).
What’s the difference between Glycolic Acid and Alpha Hydroxy Acid? Is that the same thing?
Uhh, I had a mild peel using salicylic acid, and 2 spots I accidentally scratched and they peeled and left a darker mark, they’re fading over time…but will they completely fade :O
I have being seeing in magazines that Omegga 3 fatty acids, like the ones in sushi and salmon, can clear up and prevent clogged pores? is that true?
just curious.
Hi, at my previous dermatologist I would get a peel that I had to leave on for about 6 hours. My question is what kind of chemical was it?
I’ve been using salicylic acid for almost two weeks. It does not irritate my skin with dryness. I have oily skin. But my acne has increased a bit. Is this normal in the begining? Thanks!!
@1969LAGIRL GO TO ACNE.ORG THEY SALE A GLYCOLIC ACID MOISTURIZER
I have tried using St. Ives green tea cleanser with salicylic 2.0%, It went good for 2 weeks, but after that I started having a major breakout… why?
@meteorspeed I’m not sure that your breakout is necessarily related to the new cleanser. Obviously, after this breakout resolves, try a different cleanser. If you’re really curious, try your St. Ives on one side of your face and a new, different cleanser on the other side to see if St. Ives breaks you out again. If it does, avoid the ingredients in the St. Ives cleanser in your next cleanser.
@lQueenBl Glycolic Acie is one of several different alpha hydroxy acids. Others include lactic acid and pyruvic acid.
Are Glycolic Acid peels safe in pregnant women?
