Birth Control (Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo) and Acne?

Hi, I’ve been taking ortho tri-cyclen lo for one month and my usually manageable acne has become TERRIBLE.
Here’s my situation: I usually have mild acne, so dermatologist prescribed differin (a topical cream), which i’ve been using for 3 years. While on the differin, my skin has become crystal clear. I do get the occasional pimple every couple months, but for the most part I have very clear skin. Last month I started taking ortho-tri cyclen lo because my boyfriend and I became sexually active. Since being on the pill my acne has become awful. I used to just have small pimples, but now i’m getting large cystic acne every couple days. I’m also getting terrible scars from the acne. I’m still using the topical cream from my dermatologist but it doesn’t seem to be helping. Here’s my question: is the acne bad now because my body is getting used to the hormones? so will it get better in a couple months? when will the acne improve? or, should i ask my doctor to switch to another brand of birth control?

please help! besides the acne, I have had no other side effects of the ortho-lo. However, I just can’t deal with the constant acne and terrible scarring.

How should I approach pain management with my new doctor for severe TMJ?

I need some advice, please! After 6 years of extreme stress in my life & also after nearly 2 years of being (mis-)treated for what was believed (by an ENT doc) to be an inner ear condition (I even had tubes surgically placed in both ears a year ago), I finally saw a dentist/craniofacial specialist who accurately diagnosed me with TMJ. I’ve apparently been clenching my jaw for the better part of those 6 years & have ligament damage and osteo-arthritis as well. The problem is present in both sides of my jaw, FYI, and manifests itself in my jaw, both ears & the base of my skull. I am in some form of pain at all times, though the intensity varies at different times/situations. The dentist has written up a full treatment plan and also set me up with a topical cream (steroids & numbing agents) to apply to my jaw. He also suggested I see a pain management doctor & use a muscle relaxer at night so I won’t clench my jaw while sleeping. I have no insurance, so ever since the TMJ & osteo-arthritis diagnosis I’ve just seen my primary doc for these things (because it’s relatively cheap to see him) – which are Valium & Vicodin (5/500 mg). The dentist will refer me to anyone for pain management, really, but after making many calls – it seems pain management doctors charge very high fees.

I now have an appointment set with a local doctor specializing in internal medicine in 2 days because I’ve heard around town that she is generally very understanding & liberal at helping people get their chronic pain under control. As it currently stands, I use the topical cream, apply lots of warm & cold compresses and try to alternate Advil/ibuprofen with 2 of the Vicodin (10 mg total). I basically have to take the 2 Vicodin tablets every 4 hours just to get me comfortable enough to function day-to-day. The Advil never has really helped (even high doses) and tends to upset my stomach. I’ve done a little "research" online & seen where some TMJ patients are taking meds like Percocet or Oxycontin for their severe pain. I’ve never taken either of these medications.

My question to anyone willing to help me out is: What is the best way to express this to my new doctor? Would it be horrible to say I’ve asked around and heard of these stronger pain medications being used for chronic TMJ pain and what is her opinion on this, etc? I am not seeking these meds to "feel good" or get high or anything. The pain I have with TMJ is absolutely excruciating at times (most of the time) & it is very frustrating & disruptive in my life. I’ll be spending about 0 for this doctor appointment & I really want to handle this the right way, without wasting time or money…because let’s face it, she doesn’t know me at all yet. I simply want to safely AND effectively manage my pain.

Once again, any advice here would be greatly appreciated!

        eczema vs thrush?

My 6 wk old son has these tiny little bumps all over his face, head and back of neck. I think it itches him cuz he’s always trying to rub his face. at first it was just a few scattered over his face and head and the nurse told me that its baby acne, and not to put anything on it it. I closely watched this for about a week and it started to progress and make him uncomfortable to a point where I had to go in to see the Dr. who said that it is eczema and odered pramasone (a topical cream) for it. Others who have had babies think that it is thrush, and that he should also be taking something oral. What has me concern is the fact that I heard that thrush makes the tongue white. My son’s tongue is white. Has anyone’s kid experience similar problem, and if so what was used to treat it.
